VAT Services

VAT Registration and De-Registration

Natural persons and legal persons who carry on an Economic Activity in KSA must register for the VAT in KSA.

MANDATORY REGISTRATION FOR KSA RESIDENTS: Registration is mandatory for all persons who are resident in the KSA and whose annual taxable turnover exceeds SR 375,000.
VOLUNTARY REGISTRATION FOR KSA RESIDENTS: Registration can be done voluntarily for all persons who are resident in the KSA and whose annual taxable supplies or annual taxable expenses exceeding SR 187,500
MANDATORY REGISTRATION FOR NON-RESIDENTS: Registration is mandatory for all Non-Residents supplying goods or services to non-taxable customers. There is no minimum threshold for the same

Monthly/Quarterly VAT Filing

All VAT registered person, or their authorized representative, must file a VAT return with ZATCA monthly or quarterly tax period. Monthly VAT filing are mandatory for taxable persons with annual revenues exceeding SAR 40 million. For all other VAT registered persons, the standard tax period is quarterly.

The VAT return must be filed, and the corresponding payment of net tax due made, no later than the last day of the month following the end of the tax period to which the VAT return relates. VAT review and filing by a professional/expert is recommended

VAT Return Amendment

Taxable person can make changes to already filed VAT return in form of self-disclosure for any incorrect filing made in past. This is a complicated procedure as it involves fines and penalties on due VAT post the amendment. Proper analyzation is required in such cases and professional/expert’s opinion is recommended.

Errors resulting in understatement of VAT (exceeding SAR 15,000) must be made known to ZATCA within twenty (20) days of detecting the error or incorrect amount, and the previous return must be amended

VAT Refund Support

If the VAT return results in VAT due to the taxpayer, a request for a refund of this VAT may be made together with the filing of the VAT return or a request be made at any point in time later on. VAT Audit by ZATCA in such cases is a possibility. Proper analyzation is required in such cases and professional/expert’s opinion is recommended

VAT Audit Support

ZATCA is responsible for reviewing the correctness of VAT filing and for carrying out examinations to ensure compliance. ZATCA will carry out examinations through both on-site and off-site audits. Taxpayers are required by law to cooperate with an examination carried out by ZATCA. In most cases, ZATCA provides at least 20 days to share documents. Any incorrect document provided to ZATCA can lead to fines and penalties. Proper analyzation is required in such cases and professional/expert’s opinion is recommended

VAT Objection Support

If ZATCA finds an error in a VAT return or any document submitted by the taxable person during an examination, it may issue an assessment to correct that error. On such assessment by ZATCA, the taxpayer has the right to object within a timeframe with ZATCA. Taxpayer can further object with GSTC in case of non-satisfactory results. Proper analyzation is required in such cases and professional/expert’s opinion is recommended

VAT Installment Request

Due to exceptional circumstances or hardship, if a taxpayer is unable to pay the full or partial amount of VAT when it is due, the taxpayer can request for an instalment plan from ZATCA. The Instalment plan can be accepted or rejected by ZATCA post verification of documents
